Louisiana residents seeking 2027 health insurance through the federal Marketplace can now enroll, with December 15 the deadline to select coverage that begins January 1.
Open enrollment began November 1 and continues through January 15, 2027, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Louisiana uses the federally operated Marketplace.
The two enrollment deadlines lead to different coverage dates. People who select or change a plan by December 15 can have coverage beginning January 1. Those enrolling from December 16 through January 15 can have coverage beginning February 1. In either case, the first premium must be paid before coverage starts.
Current Marketplace customers can update their applications, compare available plans and renew or change coverage. Federal guidance says applications should reflect expected household income for 2027, rather than last year's income, along with relevant household changes.
Premium payments go to the insurance company, not the Marketplace. Applicants should check with their insurer about payment arrangements.
After January 15, enrolling in or changing a Marketplace plan generally requires eligibility for a special enrollment period, such as after certain qualifying life changes. Applications for Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program are accepted throughout the year.
