We separate confirmed facts from rumors, allegations, assumptions, and opinions. We review tips, photographs, video, documents, resident reports, and official statements before using them in our coverage.
- We look for direct documents and first-hand sources.
- We identify where information came from and explain what we confirmed independently.
- We say when facts remain incomplete or a story is still developing.
- We contact people and organizations named in significant allegations and include their responses.
Public records and attribution
Public records belong to the public. We examine meeting records, court files, emails, agency releases, financial documents, disciplinary records, video, audio, and other material connected to matters of public concern.
Whenever we can publish or link to the records behind important reporting, we do. You deserve the opportunity to review the evidence yourself.
Corrections, clarifications, and updates
Developing stories change. Agencies issue new statements, witnesses come forward, and documents reveal new facts. Our coverage changes with the verified record.

Source protection
Some people risk retaliation when speaking about public agencies, employers, officials, or community issues. We protect source identities when confidentiality is necessary to bring important information to the public.
Confidentiality does not replace verification. We confirm information from unnamed sources and ensure the responsible newsroom decision-maker knows who the source is.
Editorial independence
Accurate Parish Reporting and its local editions are not government pages. No town, city, parish, county, police department, sheriff’s office, school board, or public agency operates APR.
Advertisers, sponsors, commercial partners, and personal relationships do not determine our editorial conclusions. We clearly label sponsored and commercial material so it cannot be confused with newsroom reporting.
Weather, emergencies, and safety
APR is not a meteorologist or an official weather service, and we do not create weather forecasts. Our weather coverage shares and summarizes information from authoritative sources such as the National Weather Service, NOAA, and the National Hurricane Center. We identify the source so you know where the information came from.
Weather and emergency conditions can change quickly. Always follow current official alerts and instructions from the National Weather Service, emergency management, law enforcement, and other public-safety authorities.
